I live in the suburbs, so the closest thing I have to a "local music scene" is in the city of Chicago. I saw Disappears play with Implodes (another really fantastic Chicago band) a short while ago. Both bands have been rapidly improving and I'm excited to see where they will take things. Disappears' first two efforts, a pair of 7"s, are available for free on their blog. They somewhat recently released a really fantastic limited edition cassette, which is being distro'd at Reckless Records.

I was also at that Implodes/Disappears show and it was a good time... I also just so happen to work at Reckless, so thanks for the plug...
Great blog! Keep it up!
Oh, man, awesome! Your blog is great, as well.
Which branch of Reckless do you work at? Have you ever had a sixteen year old girl come into your place of work and buy XTC and Split Enz LPs? If so, we may have crossed paths more than once. Ha!

I work at the Broadway location... With lots of hip young ladies frequenting that store, it's entirely possible that I might have pulled some vinyl for you in the past...
Small world, eh?
hey guys im from the burbs too. check out the band Stranger Waves. they opened for disapeers during the summer. they kick major ass and are incredible live. http://www.myspace.com/thestrangerwaves
The next time I go to the Broadway store, I'll just yell "UncleDiss" and then turn my head really fast and see if someone responds. Ha!
Stranger Waves are pretty great. Opened for Clues a couple of months back, too. I don't have anything by them, though; I wish they had a full album. Have you heard Teenage Lovers and Puking Pearls? There are a couple of really rad, like, lo-fi, post-punkish outfits right now and it's really fantastic.

What suburb you live in?
I'm by Great America, in Gurnee. I could walk to Wisconsin if I wanted; it's both intimidating and awesome.
